WELCOME TO CADRE

Founded in 2019 by Madison’s 2025 Chef of the Year, Cadre is a French-focused wine bar and bistro in Madison’s Regent neighborhood serving a seasonal and comforting menu that derives flavors from chef-owner Evan Dannells’ love of both Wisconsin’s bounty and French culinary techniques.

In addition to our classic menu, guests are invited to enjoy a rotating “Le Pays” experience for an ever-changing taste of France’s depth of cuisine, complemented by a curated wine list and creative cocktails.

  • Pronounced kah-dray, the name Cadre has a double meaning:

    In English, cadre refers to a group of people trained for a specific purpose.

    In French, cadre means to frame a picture.

    Chef–owner Evan Dannells chose the name because it reflects both his team (a small, specialized group working toward a shared purpose) and the dining experience they create — framing each meal like a carefully composed picture.

  • We add a 20% hospitality charge to every bill to make sure our whole team is cared for — not just those you see in the dining room. This model helps us provide consistent wages and benefits for everyone who makes your experience possible. A tip is not expected but can still be added.

  • There is a small public parking lot on Old University Ave. approximately 50 ft from the entrance as well as street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. We recommend coming a few minutes early to account for finding a spot.

  • Our food is best enjoyed in the restaurant, but we do offer a limited takeout menu. Call us to see what’s available tonight.

  • Yes. Our bar and high-top tables are available for walk-ins every night.

    If you’d like a table, give us a call in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

  • We don’t charge a cancellation fee, but we do ask for 24 hours’ notice whenever possible. As a small business, empty tables really affect us — so if your plans change, just let us know. We appreciate the heads-up.

  • We’re happy to host groups of up to 8 guests through our online reservations. If you’re planning something bigger, reach out by phone or email — we’ll do our best to make it work!

  • There is no dress code. We welcome all. Except Bears fans.

  • We’d love to host your celebration. We don’t have a private dining room, but the restaurant is available for full buyouts. Send us an email to chat about details and availability.

  • Our menu changes frequently and follows the seasons, so some dishes may rotate out. We love keeping things fresh and inspired by what’s at its peak.
